The Turkey tail mushroom truly lives up to its name with a growth habit that very much resembles the magestic layered fan-tail of a Turkey. 'versicolour' is Latin for multicoloured and describes the variable rings of colour that make this forest fungi so easy to identify. This painting was inspired by forest walks in the Blue Mountains near Sydney NSW.

I wanted to pay close attention to the cross section of this fungi and highlight the fine velvety hairs which cover the caps as well as the white uniform pores underneath. These details are often missed by the naked eye.
